Rebecca Chuaunsu Shines in HER LOCKET: A Tale of Love, Loss, and Vengeance

The film intertwines personal struggles with broader cultural narratives, making its Philippine debut this September.

Rebecca Chuaunsu Film Production, in collaboration with Rebelde Films, is proud to announce the Philippine premiere of HER LOCKET during the Sinag Maynila Film Festival 2024. The film will screen on September 4 (Wednesday) at 8:30 p.m. at Gateway Cineplex in Araneta City, Cubao, QC.

Directed by J.E. Tiglao, HER LOCKET tells the poignant story of Jewel Ouyang, a senior Chinese woman grappling with dementia who finds an old locket that unlocks her buried memories. As she navigates her past filled with familial strife and personal loss, she faces the difficult decision of seeking vengeance against her brother Magnus in court or choosing to forgive. This gripping narrative not only highlights issues of mental health but also illustrates the intersection of gender and cultural identity amidst patriarchal constraints.

Chuaunsu’s compelling portrayal of Jewel has garnered international acclaim, earning her a Best Actress award at the prestigious Festival International du Film Transsaharien de Zagora in Morocco. The film also features a talented cast including Elora Españo as Teresa, Jewel’s caregiver; Boo Gabunada as Kyle, her lawyer son; and Sophie Ng as young Jewel.

J.E. Tiglao emphasizes that HER LOCKET represents more than just an exploration of memory; it encapsulates the struggles faced by women within both Chinese and Filipino cultures. “This film is a restorative story about women who refuse to be silenced,” Tiglao stated.

The film has already made waves internationally, being showcased at prominent festivals such as Cannes 2023 and the London East Asia International Film Festival. With its upcoming participation in the San Diego Film Festival later this year, HER LOCKET is poised to reach an even broader audience.

Festival-goers can expect this emotionally charged narrative to resonate deeply with viewers as it sheds light on universal themes of family, identity, and resilience. Be sure to catch HER LOCKET at Sinag Maynila from September 4-10 at Gateway Mall and SM Manila cinemas.
