The new musical teen drama premieres on September 21, showcasing the vibrant lives of Gen Z.

In an era where youth struggles often go unnoticed, GMA Public Affairs introduces “MAKA,” a groundbreaking series that intertwines music and drama while exploring the intricate dynamics between generations. Set to premiere on September 21 at 4:45 PM, this weekly show aims to connect with both young viewers and their families through meaningful narratives.
“MAKA” follows the journey of high school students at Douglas MacArthur High School for the Arts, where they pursue their passions under the mentorship of Sir V, portrayed by veteran actor Romnick Sarmenta. Known for his controversial past as an artist, Sir V returns to his roots, reluctantly taking up a teaching role that ultimately reshapes both his life and those of his students. The storyline offers a deep dive into the unique challenges faced by Gen Z, while also reflecting on how these struggles resonate with older generations.
The ensemble cast features a multitude of talented actors, including Sparkle stars Zephanie, Ashley Sarmiento, and Marco Masa, alongside emerging talents from K-Pop group Lapillus. With such a diverse mix, “MAKA” not only entertains but also fosters conversations about generational differences and understanding.

Director Rod Marmol brings a fresh perspective to this series, building on GMA’s legacy of producing compelling youth-driven programming reminiscent of iconic shows like T.G.I.S. and Click. The innovative storytelling combined with catchy musical elements positions “MAKA” as a must-watch for families seeking engaging content that sparks discussion.
In a recent interview, Romnick Sarmenta expressed his excitement about working with younger actors. “I enjoy getting to know more people from their age group because they are around my children’s age,” he noted. This sentiment highlights the show’s core message – that mutual learning occurs across generational lines.
