The GMA Integrated News anchor competes for Presenter of the Year alongside global media giants.

In an exciting announcement that celebrates excellence in journalism, Pia Arcangel has been named a finalist for the 2024 Association for International Broadcasting Awards (AIBs) in the coveted Presenter of the Year category. As the anchor of GMA Integrated News’ flagship newscast 24 Oras Weekend, Arcangel will go head-to-head with esteemed journalists from renowned international outlets such as Al Jazeera English, ABC, and CNA (Mediacorp).

This marks Arcangel’s second recognition in this category, following her previous nomination in 2023 for her innovative GMA Integrated News podcast, “Surprise Guest with Pia Arcangel.” Her career, which spans two decades, showcases her versatility as she has anchored various formats—from breaking news and documentaries to sports coverage and political analysis.

Arcangel’s reputation as one of the most respected broadcast journalists is solidified by her multiple accolades, including recognition from the Gandingan: The 14th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Multi-media Awards and the title of Best TV Female Anchor at the 16th Gawad Tanglaw. Additionally, her contributions to the GMA Masterclass series have made an impact on aspiring journalists across major universities in the Philippines.

The AIBs, known for recognizing the highest standards in journalism and factual productions across diverse platforms, receive thousands of submissions each year. This year, over 400 hours of work was submitted, marking a record for entries in the competition’s history. Winners will be announced on November 22, 2024, at IET London: Savoy Place.
