The ensemble Tribu traces its roots back to the Aliw Award-winning cultural group “Tribung Pinoy,” which made waves in the 1980s. Founded out of a desire to continue the legacy of the late Danny Dolor—an ardent advocate for Filipino culture—Sweet Samaniego-Buchanan established the vocal ensemble in 2011. With a repertoire that celebrates Filipino heritage, Tribu beautifully weaves together timeless kundiman, beloved folk songs, captivating zarzuelas, and stirring patriotic anthems, paired with an expansive collection of opera arias and Broadway classics.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic, Tribu adapted and thrived, engaging audiences through several online shows now available on YouTube. Their perseverance culminated in the release of their first album, “Klasical Tribu: A Collection of Immortal Filipino Folk Songs,” in 2023.
