Celebrating Community and Commitment: A Rally for Change

The vibrant municipality of Pateros was the site of an inspiring event on October 1, 2024, as social media personality and entrepreneur Wilbert Tolentino led the grand launch and proclamation rally for the Ahon Mahirap Partylist. This significant event attracted a multitude of attendees, including notable celebrities such as Herlene Hipon Budol, Katrina Halili, Sugar Mercado, Jelai Andres, Buboy Villar , Jayson Gainza, Madam Inutz, Mary Letim, and Jeff Moses bringing joy and laughter to the occasion.
With a vision deeply rooted in community, Tolentino shared his personal connection to Pateros, recounting how it shaped his journey as a public figure.
“Way back in 2007 during my pageant days, my pageant trainer, Direk Rodgil Flores of Kagandahang Flores, was from Pateros. He played a pivotal role in my growth, helping me achieve success in national and international competitions,” Tolentino reflected. His emotional ties to the area were further solidified when he sought a meeting with Mayor Ike Ponce, who quickly endorsed Tolentino’s new political venture.
Tolentino introduced himself to the crowd at the rally, emphasizing his identity beyond fame: “I am Wilbert Tolentino, a simple boy with dreams. I am approachable, friendly, and dedicated to grassroots initiatives through Ahon Mahirap.” His commitment to active engagement was palpable, as he promised that he and his team would always be present in community programs rather than sending representatives.
The Ahon Mahirap Partylist is characterized by its unique advocacy for social justice, financial literacy, and economic empowerment. “We believe in equal opportunities for all,” Tolentino stated. “We need to teach financial management to children from a young age. Additionally, we aim to empower small and medium enterprises through various livelihood programs.” He highlighted a project that provided fishing boats in Leyte to enhance the local economy.
Moreover, the partylist’s vision includes legislative changes such as the No Age Limit Policy, which would facilitate job opportunities for diverse groups, including senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. Tolentino made clear his ambition to elevate Pateros into a city, advocating for a stronger voice in local governance.

The rally also showcased the nominees of the Ahon Mahirap Partylist, a diverse group dedicated to championing the rights of marginalized Filipinos. This includes notable figures like Atty. Hassanal Abdurahim from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, Miguel Ponce III, the current mayor of Pateros, and several entrepreneurs and creatives committed to societal advancement.
As the Ahon Mahirap movement gains momentum, it stands as a beacon of hope and change, uniting passionate individuals dedicated to improving the lives of those they serve. The community of Pateros now looks forward to a brighter future through the collective efforts of this newly formed partylist.
