This Family Drama Explores Love, Loss, and Identity with a Unique Narrative

Filipino cinema meets Korean storytelling in “Mujigae,” a deeply emotional family drama that will hit theaters nationwide on October 9, exclusively at SM Cinema. The film introduces us to Mujigae, a vibrant five-year-old orphan portrayed by rising star Ryrie Sophia. After losing her mother in South Korea, Mujigae finds herself under the care of her estranged aunt, Sunny, played by none other than Kapamilya actress Alexa Ilacad.
As they embark on an unexpected journey together, Mujigae and Sunny face grief and cultural complexities that challenge their understanding of family. The film also stars Korean actor Kim Ji-soo, who portrays Mujigae’s biological father, Ji Sung Park. His entrance brings new tensions and tests the bond that Mujigae has begun to form with her aunt.

Directed by Randolph Longjas and penned by Mark Raywin Tome, “Mujigae” features a talented ensemble cast including Richard Quan, Kate Alejandrino, Donna Cariage, Cai Cortez, and Rufa Mae Quinto in a special participation role. The film promises to be a visual and emotional treat, showcasing the universal themes of courage, resilience, and the enduring search for belonging amid life’s tumultuous changes.
The film’s trailer has already elicited strong emotional reactions from netizens, with one viewer commenting, “Trailer pa lang, naluha na ako! Gosh! Pa’no pa kaya kung pinanood ko na ang buong movie? Need ko ng madaming tissue niyan!” (Just from the trailer, I already cried! Gosh! How much more if I watch the whole movie? I need a lot of tissues for that!)
