Discover the Heartfelt Initiative that Cares for Filipino Families

In a remarkable initiative that underscores its commitment to community upliftment, LG Philippines has announced that Dr. Ruth S. Punzalan’s project, “Programa para sa Alagang Ina at Sanggol” (Maternal and Child Care Program), has emerged as the winner of the 2025 LG Ambassador Challenge. This winning program is dedicated to enhancing the lives of mothers and their children in Tanza, Cavite, and it comes as part of LG’s ongoing mission to empower Filipino changemakers with meaningful funding and support.
The 2025 LG Ambassador Challenge kicked off on March 13, with a goal to address pressing community needs through sustainable solutions. Over the years, this initiative has spotlighted outstanding projects, including last year’s winner, Charlene Aguilar’s “Life’s Good Library On the Go,” which mobile delivered learning and health services to underserved communities in Nagcarlan, Laguna.
This year’s focus included critical issues like poverty alleviation, quality education, and climate action. After a comprehensive evaluation with the Community Chest of Korea (CCK) and Korean Food for the Hungry (KFHI), LG has generously allocated over PHP 1.5 million in funding to Dr. Punzalan to spearhead her initiative, aimed at improving maternal and child care throughout the Philippines.

In Barangay Tres Cruses, home to about 20,000 residents, access to crucial maternal and child healthcare services is alarmingly limited. The barangay is divided into three clusters, including Poblacion and two subdivisions like Wellington, which is home to 5,900 residents. Unfortunately, many families in the informal ‘quarry’ community live under dire conditions, often near a dumpsite with inadequate sanitation and limited basic services.
Worryingly, only 46% of pregnant women in the area receive the necessary prenatal care, while immunization remains low—only 210 children are fully vaccinated. These health gaps have led to tragic outcomes, including one maternal and one under-five mortality case in 2024. This stark reality highlights the urgent need for improved healthcare services for mothers and children.

Dr. Ruth’s program aims to bridge these healthcare gaps through community-driven solutions. For maternal health, the initiative will enhance access to vital services, such as laboratory tests, ultrasounds, and postpartum care. With the Department of Health’s planned licensing of the Tanza Main Health Center, these services will soon be more affordable—for many, even free through the Konsulta Package.
On the child care front, the program strives to boost immunization rates and enhance nutrition for kids under five through health advocacy, outreach, and follow-up by Barangay Health Workers. Vaccines will be facilitated by the Department of Health, with logistical support from the local government. Additionally, the initiative includes plans to upgrade the Wellington Barangay Health Center and extend its outreach efforts to underserved areas like the ‘quarry.’
Mr. Nakhyun Seong, Managing Director of LG Philippines, expressed unwavering confidence in Dr. Punzalan’s program, noting how it stands to significantly impact the wellbeing of mothers and children in Barangay Tres Cruses. “We are proud to support an initiative that promotes safer and healthier communities. With assistance from organizations like Korea Friends of Hope International (KFHI), we believe this project will elevate access to healthcare and lay a solid foundation for future generations,” he shared.
At LG, the belief that “Life’s Good” extends beyond products—it’s about creating communities where essential care and support are paramount. By backing the “Programa para sa Alagang Ina at Sanggol,” LG is not just reaffirming its commitment to bettering lives; it is actively working to construct a future where Filipino mothers and children enjoy a healthier, more secure life. Together, we’re making strides toward a brighter future!
