Pablings Barbershop: More Than Just a Cut – It’s a Movement

The air at Elements at Eton Centris was absolutely buzzing! We’re talking three fierce categories, over 600 enthusiastic attendees, and a mountain of epic prizes. The Barber Battle 2025, celebrating Pablings Barbershop’s 6th anniversary, was an electrifying testament to the vibrant energy of the Philippine barbering industry. But beyond the sharp fades and freestyle artistry, this event was a powerful statement: a commitment to elevating skill, igniting passion, and fostering an unparalleled sense of community.
Amidst the excitement, I had the incredible opportunity to chat with Michael Baello Padayao, the visionary owner of Pablings Barbershop. His journey, and that of his rapidly expanding empire, is nothing short of inspiring.
“The journey feels like just yesterday,” Michael shared, reflecting on Pablings’ six-year odyssey. “Back in 2019, when we opened our first branch, I told myself – and I don’t know if I manifested it – ‘I’m going to change the barbershop industry.’ And honestly, it’s happening right now.”
He’s not wrong. This event, he explained, isn’t just a competition; it’s a unifying force for the entire industry. “It’s about bridging the gap between barbers, and even brands. No more egos, no more competition. We’re all in this together, uniting and uplifting the industry.”
From a single branch in Marilao, Bulacan, Pablings Barbershop has exploded to an astonishing 92 branches nationwide, with 12 company-owned. That’s an impressive feat in just six short years!
So, what fueled this rapid expansion? Michael reveals a fascinating business model designed to empower.
“One of the main factors for our rapid growth is that we’re doing what most businesses or franchisors aren’t willing to do: we provide everything,” he explained. “From construction and financial assistance to even providing employment – we handle it all. It’s essentially ‘plug and play.'”
This comprehensive support system was meticulously crafted to attract and assist first-time entrepreneurs in the Philippines. “For first-time entrepreneurs, the risk is incredibly high. Decision-making on where to invest is crucial,” Michael empathized. “Since I understood that pain point, I said, ‘I’ll provide everything so that those who franchise with me have a higher probability of success.'” It’s a brilliant strategy that not only grows his brand but also fosters new business owners.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Pablings Barbershop is its distinctive name. “Pabling is actually a personality,” Michael revealed with a smile. “You can’t be called ‘pabling’ if you’re not good-looking, if you don’t take care of yourself, or if you’re not good at talking to women. In short, you’re good at building relationships, good at winning people over.”
He quickly clarified, however, that the concept goes beyond just being a ladies’ man. “It’s more about self-care.” This philosophy is evident in their choice of Sinon Loresca as their first-ever endorser. “I saw self-care in him – his buff physique, his smooth skin. Self-care isn’t just about straight men; it’s for women, and the entire LGBTQ+ community. We all need to take care of ourselves.”
Inspired by his attendance at the Barber Expo Malaysia in 2023, Michael’s passion for the industry runs deep. The Barber Battle, for instance, was completely free for participants, with all prizes coming directly from Pablings, without any sponsors. This speaks volumes about his commitment to the community.
Michael’s ultimate dream is simple yet profound: for being a barber to become a noble profession that anyone can be proud of. And judging by the incredible growth and vibrant community he’s built, he’s well on his way to making that dream a reality.
