Star-Crossed & Sung: Kids Acts Philippines and MINT College Re-Imagine Romeo and Juliet

When Classic Meets Contemporary: Why We’re Excited!

Okay, my theatre-loving crew, time to switch up your playlist! Forget those stuffy English classes—we are getting a fresh, dynamic take on the most legendary love story ever told!

Kids Acts Philippines (KAPI) and MINT College have teamed up for an incredible seasonal offering, proudly presenting ROMEO AND JULIET, The Musical!

This isn’t just a simple school play, though. This is a brilliant artistic venture with an absolute dream team: the script is expertly edited with additional lyrics by Luigi Nacario, music by Eugene Belbis, and directed by Meldrig Costuna and Nacario himself.

What makes this production unmissable? They’ve managed to do the impossible: they’ve taken William Shakespeare’s classic—maintaining all the iconic costumes and set pieces from the original folio—but injected it with a fusion of Western and Eastern music with a contemporary flavor! Even better, they’ve simplified the language without sacrificing the original text. Young adults (and let’s be real, all of us who sometimes struggle with “Thee” and “Thou”) will finally be able to grasp the play’s depth, with all the dialogues sung beautifully and clearly.

The Story We Love, Sung Live!

We all know the tragic tale: two ancient houses, the Montagues and the Capulets, locked in a bitter, years-long feud in fair Verona. But when Romeo crashes a Capulet supper to forget his old flame, he locks eyes with Juliet, and everything changes.

That balcony scene? Sung. Their secret wedding, arranged by the hopeful Friar Lawrence? Sung. Romeo’s tragic banishment after slaying Tybalt in a fit of rage? Sung.

The classic ending is always heartbreaking: Juliet’s desperate plan to fake her death with a sleeping potion goes terribly wrong when Romeo misses the crucial message. He finds her “dead,” drinks poison, and dies right before she wakes up. She uses his dagger, and tragically, the two star-crossed lovers meet their end.

But through this shared sorrow, the Montagues and Capulets finally, finally make peace.

This musical version is a literary treat that makes you discover what’s in a name and why this remorseful tragedy is a timeless study of love, hate, and fate. It’s the perfect, accessible way for students and youth to connect with the genius of The Bard of Avon.
