Beyond the Screen: Home Credit’s First AI Hackathon is a Game Changer for Young Techies

Wait—did you feel that? That’s the sound of the Philippine fintech scene leveling up.

If you think AI is just about chatbots and filtered photos, think again. Recently, I’ve been following Home Credit Philippines (HCPH), and they just did something that honestly makes my tech-loving heart skip a beat. In partnership with KadaKareer, they launched their first-ever AI in UX Fintech Hackathon, and let me tell you—the energy was electric.

We aren’t just talking about a school project. We’re talking about 400+ students and fresh grads from 60 schools across the country, all diving headfirst into the deep end of AI to solve real-world money problems.

Bridging the Gap: From Theory to Reality

Let’s be real—the jump from a classroom to a high-stakes corporate boardroom in BGC is usually a massive leap. But that’s exactly what made this hackathon so special. These young innovators weren’t just “studying” AI; they were using it to build UX (User Experience) solutions that could actually change how we handle our finances.

With 15 provinces represented, the diversity of ideas was insane. It’s proof that the next big tech breakthrough doesn’t just come from big cities—it comes from anywhere there’s a laptop and a dream.

Not Just Tech, But Heart

I love what Home Credit’s Deputy CEO, Teeraphong Mahatham, said during the event: “The greatest AI transformation begins within ourselves.” It’s easy to get lost in the “coolness” of the tech, but Home Credit reminded everyone that people are the ones driving the engine. The Top 10 teams didn’t just get a trophy; they got direct mentorship from the heavy hitters at HCPH and KadaKareer. They learned how to pitch, how to pivot, and how to survive the fast-paced world of fintech.

And the Winners Are…

After a grueling final round at Home Credit’s BGC HQ, three teams (14 brilliant students in total) walked away as the champions. But the real prize? Guaranteed internships. In a world where “entry-level” jobs often ask for five years of experience (crazy, right?), Home Credit is actually opening the door and saying, “We see your potential. Come build the future with us.”

Why This Matters for You

Whether you’re a student, a tech enthusiast, or just someone who uses Home Credit to snag that new phone, this matters. It means the services we use are being built by the best and brightest young minds in the country. It means innovation isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a mission.

Shoutout to KadaKareer for being the bridge and to Home Credit for proving that being “digitally-forward” means investing in the human beings behind the code.
