More Than a Party: Vice Ganda Empowers Gen Z at the Star-Studded UAAP Opening

The UAAP is officially back, and The Chikkaness is here to spill all the details on the most jaw-dropping kickoff in league history! On Saturday, Far Eastern University (FEU) alumna Vice Ganda delivered the ultimate homecoming gift by transforming a sold-out SM Mall of Asia Arena into a massive, Super Bowl-style celebration for the UAAP Season 89 opening. Joined by fellow proud Tamaraw Gloc-9, the comedy superstar spearheaded a historic night that perfectly blended spectacular entertainment with fiery university pride.

The energy was off the charts from the very beginning. Gloc-9 set the arena ablaze with a six-song nostalgia trip, wrapping up his hit-filled set with a touching tribute to Francis Magalona. The crowd then absolutely erupted when Vice Ganda made her grand entrance riding a giant golden Tamaraw. What followed was a dazzling parade of celebrity guests, including Kyle Echarri, Maki, Darren Espanto, and BINI’s Mikha and Maloi, who all joined Vice on the LED stage for an unforgettable musical extravaganza.

Beyond the glitz, glamour, and high-energy choreography, the kickoff held a profound meaning. Drawing from her roots as a former FEU Political Science student, Vice utilized her massive platform to deliver an empowering, deeply personal message to Gen Z. She passionately challenged the youth to fight for a society that guarantees decent living, to fiercely protect their freedom, and to boldly demand leaders who will genuinely uplift the nation.

With the breathtaking opening festivities now in the books, the spotlight shifts from the concert stage to the hardcourt. The highly anticipated men’s basketball tournament tips off today, Sunday, with season host FEU ready to lock horns against Adamson University at the SMART Araneta Coliseum. If this spectacular kickoff show is any indication of the season’s overall energy, sports fans are definitely in for an incredibly thrilling ride!
