The Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is hitting a remarkable milestone, celebrating a century of enriching Philippine musical life. As part of its 100th Anniversary Season, the orchestra is staging Centennial Concert V on October 22, 2026, at the Proscenium Theater. This landmark evening promises a powerful blend of global talent and local artistry, bringing together world-class musicians to reflect on a century of shared heritage and community.
A major highlight of the night is the World Premiere of Pasasalamat, a brand-new masterpiece commissioned specifically for the centennial. With music by National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab and text by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario, the piece explores gratitude, shared responsibility, and what it truly means to be human. Brought to life by the MSO and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Bagong Himig Serenata choir, the performance serves as a profound meditation on values like compassion, respect, and freedom.
Adding international brilliance to the stage is celebrated Franco-Belgian cellist and Deutsche Grammophon artist Camille Thomas. Known for her deeply expressive performances and advocacy for music as a vehicle for hope, Thomas will join the orchestra for Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s elegant Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33. Her artistic vision aligns seamlessly with the evening’s themes, bridging cultures and touching hearts through the universal language of melody.
The program concludes on a deeply peaceful note with Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, Op. 48, offering a gentle and comforting take on remembrance. Featuring the MSO alongside the award-winning PUP Bagong Himig Serenata, this intimate masterpiece replaces judgment with rest and reflection, bringing a serene close to an extraordinary night of classical performance.
Tickets ranging from P1,000 to P5,000 are available on Ticketworld, with special discounts for students, seniors, and persons with disabilities. Join the Manila Symphony Orchestra for an unforgettable evening where history, local mastery, and international acclaim meet to inspire the next century of music.
