Beyond the Acoustic Guitar: Ice Seguerra Takes on Musical Hits with Troy Laureta

Ice Seguerra is stepping away from the familiar solo acoustic setup to explore a lifelong passion on the live stage. For the upcoming Musical Hits concerts at the Music Museum on November 6 and 7, Seguerra has teamed up with renowned Filipino-American musical director and producer Troy Laureta. Together, they are crafting rich, full-band arrangements for iconic showtunes and film classics that shaped Ice’s early years.

Laureta brings a world-class resume, having collaborated with international pop superstars like Ariana Grande and Nicole Scherzinger. In this intimate production, however, his focus shifts toward reinterpreting beloved theatrical anthems without overpowering Seguerra’s signature conversational warmth. The result promises a dynamic balance of lush, theatrical orchestration and quiet, heartfelt storytelling.

Born out of Seguerra’s digital performance series, the stage show marks the beginning of a larger anthology exploring distinct musical chapters. Producer and creative director Liza Diño emphasizes that the production is designed as an emotional arc rather than a routine revue, tracing themes of childhood wonder, heartbreak, and resilience. This format gives Ice the creative freedom to seamlessly combine his talents as both an empathetic vocalist and a seasoned stage actor.

Concertgoers can expect fresh takes on legendary repertoire, including poignant ballads like “On My Own” alongside dynamic showstoppers like “Friend Like Me,” a nod to Ice’s past theatrical role as the Genie. Rather than rigidly sticking to classic arrangements, the band is reshaping each melody to unearth new emotional nuances. Despite the grandeur of the selected setlist, preserving the warmth of the Music Museum remains central to every arrangement.

Musical Hits sets the stage for future editions of the intimate series, which will eventually delve into film soundtracks, love ballads, and timeless standards. As Diño highlights, regardless of how sweeping the musical styles become, Seguerra’s soul and sincerity remain the driving force. These November performances celebrate not just theatrical nostalgia, but the evolving artistry of a performer embracing new creative frontiers.
